This tutorial was initially released for Pinnacle Liquid Edition version 6 and later 6.1.  But in August 2005, Avid Technology acquired Pinnacle Systems.  Liquid Edition was to soon become Avid Liquid, beginning with Version 7.0.  Both versions, 6.x and 7.0, were used to make this tutorial.  Subtle differences can be seen when you begin with Disk 3 - What's New In 7.0.  But rest assured, all the information portrayed throughout this tutorial can be applied to both versions 6.0, 6.1 and 7.x.

What's On The Inside...

I don't want to spend time delineating each of the chapters and sub chapters of this epic tutorial, suffice it to say, here is a PDF index for you to download and read.

Some of the biggest issues new encounter when beginning with Avid Liquid can be overcome or completely averted, by viewing this video before doing anything!  For instance...

  • Configuring your computer

  • Understanding Liquid's components

  • Installing Avid Liquid

  • Configuring your system

Having an initial understanding of these things before ever installing that first bit will save you countless hours in the long run.

Using Mind Meld...

If you are a stone-cold new comer to Liquid, I strongly recommend watching each disk before experimenting with Liquid on your own.  Then, use the videos (in conjunction with the Mind Meld Index), for future reference.  Unless you are editing video, day in and day out, its quite normal to forget some of what you just learned.  That's why its a good idea to frequently go back to the index and take occasional refresher sessions.  I'll give you a good example... 4 months had passed since I edited my last multi-cam job.  Before I sat down to capture my footage, I spent a little over an hour, 71 minutes to be exact, refreshing my tired brain cells of all the subtle nuances of multi-cam editing.  That little refresher saved me hours in the long run.

In Summary...

Wouldn't it be cool if your friend and next door neighbor was an accomplished videographer (and oh by the way) just happened to be an expert in Avid Liquid editor.  Well that's what you'll feel like when you sit down at your PC and engage this tutorial.

It does not matter... whether you are brand new to video editing, a recent convert from another software product or a veteran Liquid user, you are going to learn something from this three DVD ROM set that will easily justify your investment.

One of the things that sets this video tutorial apart from all the others is that Paul Mitton, the self proclaimed "King of Tangents" has a style and wit designed to teach and entertain at the same time.

Recommendation: Excellent tutorial. A must have for any Avid Liquid user.
