UPDATE 4/14/2006 -
This tutorial is nolonger available.
PowerStart is
one of the best CBT (Computer Based Training) courses I have seen.
Using a real scenario to explain and demonstrate the basic features of
Liquid Edition, PowerStart allows the student to relate, first
hand, with Liquid Edition while creating a real video project.
After having first
copied all the files (from disk 1) to your desktop, the actual
tutorial runs from disk 2. Although the tutorial
doesn't say, make sure Liquid Edition is already running in the
background before launching the tutorial. Otherwise,
you will need to exit the tutorial, start Liquid Edition and the
resume the tutorial.
The tutorial is broken
down into four basic areas: Interface, Capture, Create (building your
project) and Deliver (output to tape or DVD). The sessions goes
by quickly but the interface allows you to pause, replay or rewind
segments when necessary.
The Interface and
Capture lessons are "listen and learn" where the remaining sessions
are highly interactive. By toggling (Alt+Tab) between tutorial demonstration and practical
execution, you are taken through a myriad of small tasks (or chunks)
which eventually results in the creation of a short comedy video.
I really liked this approach because you can't loose your place.
Each step is positively reinforced through each educational "chunk."
Not only does one learn
to use Liquid Edition through PowerStart, Josh also takes the
time to teach video editing tips along the way... such as "matched action edits."
This tutorial is
designed to be a quick route to understanding the complexity of Liquid
Edition. The educational delivery method is excellent. It
is really a
great value.
My only regret... as
soon as I was done with the tutorial, I was yearning for more complex
features.
Recommendation:
Excellent
tutorial for individuals just beginning to edit video.
Experienced users should look for a tutorial with a more extensive
content.
